# Update plugins and themes

Update the catalog plugins and theme on your site from the GPLClub Updater Dashboard.

Updates are applied from the GPLClub Updater Dashboard, the plugin's main page. Each update uses 1 download credit.

## Dashboard

The Dashboard shows your plan, expiration date, available credits, connected sites, and the number of pending updates. Below, the product table compares the **Installed** version of each plugin and the theme with the **Latest** version in the catalog.

The table only includes catalog products. Other plugins do not appear and are updated as usual.

## Update a plugin

The **Update** button is enabled when the **Latest** version is newer than the **Installed** version. If the button is gray, the plugin is already up to date.

1. On the Dashboard, select **Update** in the plugin's row.
2. Wait for the **Plugin Updated Successfully** message, which also shows your remaining credits.

Plugins are updated one at a time.

GPLClub Updater may appear in the product table. To update it, use the WordPress **Plugins** page, where the update does not use credits.

## Update the theme

The table includes the active theme, marked with the **Theme** label. If the site uses a child theme, the Updater updates the parent theme and does not modify the child theme. If the theme is not in the catalog, the **Latest** column shows **Not available**.

1. In the theme's row, select **Update**.
2. Review the comparison between the current and the new version, and select **Ok**.

The page reloads when the update finishes.

The update replaces the theme's entire folder. Changes made directly to its files are lost. To customize a theme, use a child theme.

## Before you update

Before each update, the Updater saves a copy of the installed version, which you can restore with a [rollback](/en/gplclub-updater/rollbacks.md). This copy does not replace a full site backup, which is recommended before updating the theme or critical plugins, such as page builders or WooCommerce.

## Credits and errors

The credit is used when the download starts, so it is deducted even if the installation fails on the server. Each retry uses another credit. Credits reset at 00:00 UTC; refer to [Download Limits and Credits](/en/membership-and-account/daily-downloads.md).

If the **Error updating the plugin** message appears, try again. If the error persists, [contact support](/en/support-and-legal/contact-us.md) with the plugin name and the message.
