Rollbacks
The Rollback feature allows you to restore the previous version of a plugin or theme after updating it with GPLClub Updater. It's your safety net: if something goes wrong after an update, you can roll back with a single click.
How does it work?
Every time you update a plugin or theme through GPLClub Updater, the system automatically creates a backup of the version you had installed. This backup is stored securely on your server, and will be available in the Rollbacks section until you use it or perform a new update.
ℹ️ Note: The backup is generated automatically. You don't need to do anything additional to enable it.
How to Perform a Rollback
From the WordPress menu, go to GPLClub Updater → Rollbacks.
You'll see a list of all plugins and the active theme on your site.
Products that have a backup available will show the Rollback button in an active color (orange).
Products without an available backup will have the button grayed out.
Click Rollback on the product you want to restore.
Wait for the process to finish. The page will reload automatically when it's done.
⚠️ Important: The rollback completely replaces the current version of the plugin or theme with the previous one. Once executed, the backup is deleted. If you need to go back to that version again, you'll need to update first and then rollback again.
When to Use Rollback?
These are some common scenarios where rollback will be useful:
Critical error after updating: If your site shows a 500 error, white screen, or any conflict after updating a plugin or theme, the rollback lets you go back to the previous stable version.
Plugin incompatibility: Sometimes, a new version of a plugin isn't compatible with other plugins on your site. The rollback allows you to restore the version that was working correctly.
Unwanted changes: If an update brings design or functionality changes you don't like, you can go back to the previous version while you evaluate the new one.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the rollback consume credits?
No. The rollback uses the backup stored locally on your server; it doesn't download anything from GPLClub's servers, so it doesn't consume credits.
Can I rollback any plugin?
Only plugins and themes that were previously updated through GPLClub Updater. If you installed or updated a plugin through other means, no backup will be available.
Does it work with themes?
Yes. If your active theme was updated through GPLClub Updater, it will appear in the Rollbacks list with its backup available. Additionally, if you use a child theme, GPLClub Updater automatically detects the parent theme and only rolls back the parent theme, without touching your child theme.
What happens if the rollback fails?
GPLClub Updater uses a safe rollback method: it first moves the current version to a temporary folder, then restores the backup. If the restoration fails for any reason, the system automatically reverts to the version you had, so your site never ends up in a broken state.
Where are backups stored?
Backups are stored in the wp-content/uploads/gplclub-backups/ folder on your server. Only one backup per product is kept (the most recent one). When you perform a rollback or a new update, the previous backup is automatically deleted.
Limitations
Only one backup per product is kept (the immediately previous version).
The backup is only created when you update through GPLClub Updater, not from other sources.
Your server's disk space must be sufficient to store the backup ZIP files.
